Gender Reveal

We had the Melstad family Christmas on Saturday and since that was only a few days after the ultrasound  my awesome cousin Carolyn offered to make a gender reveal cake.  It was super cute (and really yummy).  So, after we finished dinner Jamie & Everett did the honors and cut the cake, out came the pink jellybeans!  It's a girl!!

We did a decent job keeping it a secret until then.  The hardest part was not telling people about Ev's reaction, which would immediately give away what it was.  He had a hard time at first, it was the very first thing we saw at the ultrasound so it surprised him a little.  He spent the next 10 minutes curled up in Jamie's lap quietly lamenting "I don't want girl toys in my room" and such.  But then he jumped on board.  His prayer that night was, "Thank you God for giving us a healthy baby girl even though that wasn't what I wanted."  We actually thought it was a good lesson in being thankful even when we don't get what we want.

Funniest part of his reaction was when my sister went downstairs to get him to cut the cake.  Know that he has been a secret keeping rock star, much better then Jamie or I around this baby stuff.  Ev looks right up at her and says, "why do we have to cut the cake, it's a girl."  Ooops lol

  1. Kudos to Cousin Carolyn!! Cute cake. I have never seen one done with jelly beans before. Cute idea and good to know that the jelly beans don't really melt. :-)
